How to Build a Closet with Double Bottom
Build A Closet – Valuables in your home may be susceptible to theft. One way to thwart a thief or to keep possessions of value out of sight is to build a double wall bottom in a closet. This can make an excellent place to hide for cash, coins or other possessions that you want to keep secret. The construction of a double bottom does not have to suppose a great project of remodeling. You can easily build a frame that will support a fake wall by employing some easily available materials and basic tools.
Measure the height and width of the back wall of the cabinet with a tape measure. Cut two 2-by-4-inch boards to match the height of the back wall of the cabinet. Apply construction adhesive on one side 4 inches on each board. Place the gaskets on the side walls of the cabinet with the construction adhesive pressing against the wall and the rear edges of the 4-inch plates on the back wall of the cabinet. Allow the glue to dry completely.
Cut a piece of wood 1/2 inch thick to match the height and width of the back wall of the cabinet. Place the board against the boards 2 by 4 inches. Drill a 1/4 inch hole in each corner of the plywood, punch through the plywood and into the 2 by 4-inch boards. Place wood screws in each of the holes and tighten to hold the fake wall in place. Paint the wall to match the color of the interior of the cabinet.
