How to Organize the Living Room
If you spend a lot of time in your living room, as many people do, it is easy to accumulate clutter. Follow these steps to organize your living room, reduce clutter, and create a relaxing space to visit with friends, watch TV, read a book or take a nap in the afternoon.
Create a list of all activities that take place in the living room, such as watching television, entertainment and play. Take note of what furniture or lounge items you need for each function of the living room will serve. Designate two piles, one for all the books, newspapers and magazines you have already read and one for those who have yet to read. Shopping baskets or other attractive containers and place them under your tables or coffee table. Remove from the coffee table, which tends to act as the catch-all for a variety of living room clutter.
Sort and organize your music and movie collections. Save all toys, books, and puzzles in a toy storage box or container, if the children play in the living room. Show a couple of favorite collectibles, and place the rest in storage or in another room. These will not only focus visitors’ attention on the pieces that appear but also give your room a clean and organized look. Reduce image frame clutter by placing framed photos on shelves, in the mantle, or hanging on the wall. This takes us from the frames of their coffee tables and end tables while allowing decorating the room.
